Gogo and Insitu Complete Satellite Connectivity Integration for Group 3 Uncrewed Aircraft

Gogo (NASDAQ:GOGO) and Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing, have completed testing and integration of a modified high-speed satellite communications system designed for Group 3 Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS).

The companies adapted Gogo’s Galileo HDX antenna for installation on Insitu’s Integrator UAS, providing connectivity through Eutelsat’s OneWeb low-Earth orbit satellite network.

The integration was completed alongside the FLARES Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) kit.

Galileo HDX Antenna Adapted for Integrator UAS

The satellite communications solution uses a single line-replaceable unit configuration, designed to simplify installation and maintenance.

According to the companies, the modified antenna requires minimal deck space and can operate in challenging conditions, including high seas and gusty winds.

The system also requires no modifications to the aircraft.

The package combines onboard communications hardware, satellite connectivity services and around-the-clock support.

Satellite System Supports Command and Control

The integration is intended to provide high-speed satellite communications for operators of Insitu’s Integrator aircraft.

John Kelly, Vice President of Growth at Insitu, said:

“Adding an ITAR-free, high-speed SATCOM option is an essential capability for our global customers—extending command and control and allowing seamless backhaul of sensor data with minimal latency.”

The companies said the system is designed to support command-and-control communications and the transmission of sensor data over the OneWeb satellite network.

Its ITAR-free designation refers to the offering’s stated status outside the scope of US International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

Gogo Targets Group 3 UAS Market

Ben Massey, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Gogo Special Missions, said the Galileo HDX antenna had been “further optimized for size and weight” to serve the “fast-growing Group 3 UAS market.”

Gogo Special Missions is the company’s division serving military and government customers.

Insitu is headquartered in the United States and maintains offices in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the company, it has manufactured more than 3,500 uncrewed aircraft systems and supplies armed forces in 35 countries.

The completed testing and integration establish the modified Galileo HDX system as a satellite connectivity option for the Integrator UAS.
