SolarEdge Technologies (NASDAQ:SEDG) has appointed Gokul Krishnan as Senior Vice President and General Manager of North America, strengthening its regional leadership as the solar technology company seeks to expand adoption of its next-generation energy solutions.
Krishnan, who is based in California, has already assumed his responsibilities and will oversee SolarEdge’s operations across the North American market.
He joins the company following senior leadership positions at Enphase Energy and SunEdison, bringing experience in solar technology, business development and commercial operations.
Krishnan succeeds Amir Cohen, who previously headed SolarEdge’s North American organisation. Cohen will assist with the leadership transition while continuing to contribute to other company initiatives.
Before joining SolarEdge, Krishnan served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the consumer business unit at Enphase Energy.
During his time at Enphase, he also led the company’s microinverter business unit and global business development activities, gaining experience across product strategy and international commercial operations.
Earlier in his career, Krishnan held several senior positions at SunEdison, including Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of its Residential and Small Commercial business.
He also served as Vice President and General Manager of SunEdison’s global module business, overseeing operations within the company’s solar equipment activities.
His previous experience includes senior roles at semiconductor companies Cypress Semiconductor and Xilinx.
The appointments throughout his career have provided Krishnan with experience spanning semiconductor technology, solar energy products and commercial management.
SolarEdge’s decision to recruit an executive with experience at another major solar technology provider reflects its focus on strengthening leadership in a strategically important market.
SolarEdge Chief Executive Officer Shuki Nir highlighted the importance of the North American business in the company’s broader strategy.
“North America is a key market for us. Gokul’s background makes him the right leader to accelerate the adoption of our next-generation DC-optimized technologies,” Nir said.
The appointment places Krishnan in charge of a region that remains central to SolarEdge’s residential and commercial solar technology operations.
His responsibilities will include leading the company’s regional business as it promotes its direct current (DC)-optimised energy solutions.
SolarEdge develops technologies designed to manage and optimise electricity generation from solar installations, including inverters and power optimisers.
The company’s product portfolio also includes energy storage systems and grid services solutions for residential and commercial customers.
Krishnan’s background in solar equipment, semiconductor technology and business development is expected to support SolarEdge’s efforts to strengthen its market presence and customer relationships.
Krishnan holds a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School.
He also earned a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
In addition, he completed postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
His academic qualifications complement his professional experience in technology development and commercial leadership.
SolarEdge did not disclose the financial terms of his appointment or announce any changes to its financial outlook alongside the leadership update.
Amir Cohen, who previously led SolarEdge’s North American operations, will remain involved during the transition to Krishnan’s leadership.
Cohen will also continue working on other initiatives within the company, providing continuity as the new regional head assumes responsibility.
Headquartered in Milpitas, California, SolarEdge supplies solar inverters, power optimisers, energy storage systems and grid services technologies.
Its products serve residential and commercial solar markets, with a focus on optimising energy production and managing electricity usage.
The appointment of Krishnan brings an executive with extensive experience in the solar and semiconductor industries into a key management position.
SolarEdge expects his leadership to support its efforts to increase adoption of its next-generation DC-optimised technologies across North America.
