Apple Prepares New Smart Home Devices Featuring AI-Enhanced Siri

By Fiona Craig | October 13, 2026, 6:36 AM

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to introduce a new range of smart home products on Tuesday, including a wall-mounted or tabletop device resembling an iPad that will demonstrate the capabilities of its upgraded Siri virtual assistant.

The anticipated launch forms part of Apple’s efforts to expand its presence in the connected home market, where it has competed for several years against Amazon and Google without establishing a dominant position.

The new products are expected to provide centralised control over connected household devices, including video doorbells, thermostats and smart locks. Analysts have also suggested that Apple could introduce updated versions of its HomePod smart speaker and Apple TV.

The announcements come as the company seeks additional opportunities for hardware growth while facing increased competition in artificial intelligence and regulatory pressure on its services business.

New Smart Home Hub Could Expand Apple’s Connected Device Ecosystem

The centrepiece of the expected product announcements is a smart home control device designed for installation on a wall or placement on a tabletop.

The device is expected to provide an interface for managing connected household equipment while incorporating Apple’s enhanced Siri assistant.

Its capabilities could allow users to interact with multiple smart home products through a single system, potentially simplifying everyday tasks such as adjusting heating, monitoring entrances and controlling electronic locks.

Apple has been developing its connected home ecosystem for approximately a decade. The company introduced its Home application in 2016, followed by the HomePod smart speaker in 2018.

However, its products have faced established competition from Amazon’s Echo speakers and Google’s Home devices.

One of the main challenges has been ensuring compatibility with smart home products manufactured by third-party companies.

A centralised interface may improve accessibility, but its effectiveness will depend on how easily users can connect and manage devices from different manufacturers.

AI-Enhanced Siri Expected to Play Central Role

Apple’s upgraded Siri virtual assistant is expected to be a significant feature of the new smart home products.

The company improved Siri’s capabilities during the summer with assistance from Google, seeking to address limitations in the assistant’s ability to respond to questions and carry out more complex requests.

Greater artificial intelligence functionality could make voice-controlled home management more useful, particularly when coordinating several connected devices.

However, analysts have questioned whether improvements in Siri alone will be sufficient to encourage broader adoption of Apple’s smart home products.

Bob O’Donnell, chief analyst at TECHnalysis Research, said that setting up connected home systems remains too complicated for many consumers.

“Advances in AI should finally make a difference, but Apple still needs to show whether it can simplify connectivity and work with devices across the wider smart home market rather than restricting users to its own ecosystem,” O’Donnell said.

His comments highlighted the importance of interoperability alongside improvements in artificial intelligence.

For Apple, making connected home technology easier to install and operate could be as important as introducing new hardware or expanding Siri’s capabilities.

Amazon, Google and AI Companies Increase Competition

Apple’s planned product introductions come amid intensifying competition in the smart home and artificial intelligence markets.

Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) has invested heavily in connected home technology through its Echo smart speakers and Ring video doorbells.

The company also introduced premium tablets last week, expanding its range of consumer hardware products.

Alphabet’s Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) remains another major competitor through its Google Home devices and associated smart home services.

Meanwhile, newer artificial intelligence companies, including OpenAI, are exploring opportunities to develop consumer hardware.

These developments have increased pressure on established technology manufacturers to integrate more advanced AI capabilities into their devices.

Apple’s approach centres on combining its existing hardware ecosystem with improved voice assistance and household device management.

However, the company’s ability to compete will depend partly on the compatibility, usability and functionality of its new products.

Hardware Growth Gains Importance for Apple

The anticipated smart home expansion comes as investors pay closer attention to Apple’s hardware sales as a potential source of future growth.

The company’s services business has faced regulatory scrutiny, increasing the importance of identifying additional revenue opportunities across its product portfolio.

Smart home devices could provide another category through which Apple expands customer relationships and encourages the use of its existing products and services.

However, the company has yet to achieve the same level of success in connected home technology as it has in smartphones, tablets and other consumer electronics.

The expected announcements will therefore provide an indication of how Apple intends to strengthen its position in the market.

Investors and consumers will be watching for details about device compatibility, Siri’s improved capabilities and the extent to which the new products simplify smart home installation and operation.
