Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google means business when it comes to artificial intelligence innovation. On May 20, the company confirmed the return of co-founder Sergey Brin as the company looks to leverage his experience in the race to come up with game-changing innovations under Gemini.

The returning Google co-founder will actively work on Gemini, the tech giant’s flagship platform, spearheading AI innovations. After stepping down and handing over reins to Sundar Pichai, Brin says he has learnt valuable lessons from mistakes made on the Google Glass project, which he plans to deploy on Gemini.

Brin remains bullish on Google’s latest wearable, the XR and Extended Reality glasses. Likewise, he insists that artificial intelligence technology is well positioned to revolutionize glass products. Google collaborates with a network of partners, including Samsung and Xreal, to create Android XR glasses with AI and AR capabilities. As part of its efforts to boost smart glasses, it is investing up to $150 million in a partnership with Warby Parker and acquiring stock in the eyewear startup.

Additionally, Brin’s comeback and focus on Gemini is a clear indication that the search giant is ready to take the fight to OpenAI, which has threatened to disrupt its dominance on search with ground-breaking AI innovations.
