The strategy returned 13.0% (gross), YTD, compared to the Russell 1000 Value’s +11.7% return and the S&P 500’s +14.8% return. "Our stock selection within the Consumer Staples sector detracted from relative performance. Mondelez International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLZ) (-6.6%) declined after cocoa futures rose amid renewed concerns about crop yields in West Africa driven by dry weather conditions. Cocoa remains a key input cost for Mondelez, one that the company is working to de-risk by expanding its supply base beyond Africa to Southeast Asia."
