Transport Secretary Sean Duffy has praised affordable gas prices as a win for the Donald Trump administration, amid pro-Gasoline policies.

Lowest Gas Prices In Five Years

The Transport Secretary shared a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday, claiming that Trump was giving back choice and affordability to American consumers with his policies.

He also shared a clip with the post, where Duffy shared that automakers would not have to pay "billions of dollars on taxes or carbon credits" to meet "unattainable" emissions norms.

"Donald Trump 47 is competing with Donald Trump 45 for the lowest gas prices," Duffy said, adding that gas prices are the lowest they've been "in FIVE YEARS."

Duffy's claims are backed by the Department of Energy, which shared that Gas prices in the U.S. were averaging about $2.80/gal. The claim was also backed by the White House, which cited American Automobile Association data that showed the average national Gas price was $2.819/gal on January 8. The same data suggests the national average on Tuesday was $2.822/gal.

Interestingly, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, on Tuesday, shared that it expects lower gas prices in 2026 and 2027 due to a decline in crude oil prices. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) shared that it expects the fourth-quarter oil and gas production to improve 5% YoY.

Gavin Newsom Touts Gas Prices, EV Push

The news comes as California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) also touted lower gas prices in the state as a win for his administration. The administration shared that its two special legislations on price gouging and fuel supplies led to lower prices for consumers.

Newsom, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, also hailed California's EV push, sharing that the state had recorded 2.5 million ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) sales, far exceeding its intended target of 1.5 million EVs by 2025.
