The Week Ahead: Wave of Economic Data, Earnings Collide

The government shutdown is now on its fifth week, with no clear end in sight and more disruptions to economic data expected. Investors are looking to kick off November with S&P final U.S. manufacturing and services purchasing managers' index (PMI) readings, data from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM), and the ADP employment report.

On the earnings front, expect to hear from Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM), Bumble (BMBL), BP (BP), Capri Holdings (CPRI), D-Wave Quantum (QBTS), e.l.f. Beauty (ELF), Fastly (FSLY), Harley-Davidson (HOG), IonQ (IONQ), Live Nation Entertainment  (LYV), Lyft (LYFT), Match Group (MTCH), Mosaic (MOS), ON Semiconductor (ON), Palantir Technologies (PLTR), PENN Entertainment (PENN), Pfizer (PFE), Shopify (SHOP), Spotify Technology (SPOT), Toast (TOST), Uber Technologies (UBER), Wendy's (WEN), and Yum! Brands (YUM).

Below is the schedule of key market events for the week ahead. Please note that some data may not be available due to the government shutdown. All economic dates are tentative and subject to change.

The S&P final U.S. manufacturing PMI and the ISM manufacturing reading are due out Monday, Nov. 3, in addition to construction spending and auto sales data.

Tuesday, Nov. 4. features the U.S. trade deficit update, factory orders, and job openings data.

The ADP employment report, the S&P final U.S. services PMI, and ISM services data will come out on Wednesday, Nov. 5

Weekly jobless claims, U.S. productivity data, and wholesale inventories are slated for release on Thursday, Nov. 6. Remarks will be coming from New York Federal Reserve President John C. Williams, Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson, and St. Louis Fed President as well. 

The U.S. employment report and rate are on tap for Friday, Nov. 7 in addition to U.S. hourly wages, preliminary consumer sentiment data, and a consumer credit reading. Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan will also deliver remarks.
